Autism and the age of the Parent
The cases of Autism seem to be rising. Is it that doctors are better equipped to diagnose the disorder and that parents are better at recognizing the signs? Or is it changes in our culture and environment?
Recent studies have all but ruled out immunizations as a culprit for the onset of Autism. I can’t say I am completely convinced but I did allow my children to be given the MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella) vaccine after the age of 24 months. I was told the risks of waiting and felt that I could live with it. Thankfully I had a very understanding pediatrician who allowed me as a parent to make the ultimate decision without chastising me. But, after reading all of the findings of these studies ruling out immunizations, I still have the question in my mind… “What is the cause?”
Most recently, studies of autistic children have shown that older parents have a higher likelihood of having an autistic child especially if that child is their first. Age of the parent and toxins released to the child seem to be factors. Whether those toxins are passed to the child in the womb or through breast feeding.
I have growing concerns over chemicals and antibiotics used to grow foods and the effects they have on our bodies. What must they do to unborn fetuses? Can this be a cause of autism? It is so unhealthy for our bodies in many ways. In schools I see so many more cases of premature puberty, obesity, learning disabilities, lack of energy, and much, much more. I will be eager to read future studies done on this growing disorder. Tell us your views.
